Setting up Outlook 2003 for POP3 over SSL and ASMTP

If you like to use public wireless hotspots, you may want to consider using POP over SSL and ASMTP with SSL to encrypt your email traffic over the air. Using ASMTP also means that you don't have to change your outgoing email server if the hotspot does not proxy SMTP.

Open Outlook 2003 and select Tools: E-mail Accounts.

Choose Add a new e-mail account.

Choose POP3.

Supply your and email address, the user name and password assigned by Midas Networks, Inc. and set the Incoming mail server (POP3) and Outgoing mail server to: mailsafe.midasnetworks.com

Click on More Settings.

Choose the Outgoing Server tab.

Then choose My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication and Use same settings as my incoming mail server.

Note: The Test Account Settings button should not be used, since it does not work reliably.

Select the Advanced tab.

Then under Incoming server (POP3): select This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL) and make sure the box says to the right of POP3 says 995.

Then under Outgoing server (SMTP): select This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)

And make sure the box to the right of (SMTP): says 465.

That should get you set up using Outlook 2003 for POP3 over SSL and ASMTP!
