Stopping Pop-up Alert Messages on Windows

If you are tired of receiving pop-up alert spam, use this procedure to stop them.

Note: This procedure does not affect AIM or MSN Messenger. It does not apply to Windows 95, 98, or ME.

1. Open your control panels:
   
   
2. Find the "Administrative Tools" item and open it:
   
   
3. Find the "Services" settings and open it:
   
   
4. Scroll through the list until you find the item labeled "Messenger." Click on it once:
   
   
5. Right click on "Messenger" and select "Properties":
   
   
6. Set the "Startup Type" to "Disabled" and click OK and close all the windows.
   
   
7. Restart your machine. You should now be free of pop-up alerts.
